First Oriole we have seen in the city. This lot had an unbelievable amount of birds that we had not seen or heard in other places around the town.
One morning two years ago, we heard wild screeching, wings beating, and a ruckus in the tree outside S.'s bedroom window at our home on the East Side. We had previously hung a fake owl in the tree to scare away some pesky pigeons (didn't work). When we looked to see the source of the noises, we saw a large hawk circling in and out of the tree confronting the owl statue. On another occasion, I saw a Red Tail pounce on a pigeon coming off the Grand River exit of I-10 just north of downtown. Didn't have the camera ready on either occasion.
Heard its call and then spotted it near the top of a telephone pole on the East Side near our home. We took a couple pictures before it flew away but when we went to upload the photos we found that the data file was toast.
With different coloring than the males, the females are quite pretty birds as well.
